Topper's Mountain Wild Ferment Tannat 2013

This wine is both an unusual variety for Australia - tannat - and is big, weighing in at 15.8%abv.  It is a little wild for me.  Its aroma reminds of cooked prunes and is meaty and primal.  The palate is tannic and a little drying (this is tannat after all, a prodigiously and easy to remember tannic variety), whilst the fruit has a pomegranate like character that won't be for everyone.  Rating: Acceptable. Abv: 15.8%. Price: $38. Source: Sample.
