Rymill Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon new releases: 2012 and 2014

The Coonawarra Vignerons website (here) is a wealth of information about local vintage conditions, albeit in a glass half full kind of a way where one is left guessing as to their actual views of the vintages.  2014 for example is described as "classic", while 2012 had "very pleasing quality fruit" and is "a vintage to collect".  Looking at these two wines together, I did in fact think the 2012 the better wine and most typical of the region, whilst the 2014 was more obviously fruity.  So perhaps they are right after all.

Rymill Cabernet Sauvignon (maturation release) 2012
A typical ferrous earthy aroma, supplemented by black olives and licorice.  The palate is full bodied, the acid frames the wine and a classic blackcurrant expression emerges with time in the glass.  Length on the finish is good.  Quite approachable now, the 2012 has entered its drinking window.  A nice release.  (Alc: 14%, Region: Coonawarra, South Australia, Rating: Very Good, Drink: now to 2022, Tasted: August, 2017, Source: Sample)

Rymill Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
The 2014 cabernet is more open knit (for a young Coonawarra) and blackcurrant like in expression.  The palate shows good length, is well balanced, not quite full bodied and has a youthful character.  I suspect this will improve with further ageing.  Lovely drinking.  (Alc: 14%, Region: Coonawarra, South Australia, Rating: Good, Drink: now to 2025+, Tasted: August, 2017, Source: Sample)
