Rockford Rod & Spur Shiraz Cabernet 2013

This is another excellent "Rod & Spur" release from Rockford.  The 2013 vintage is a blend of 67% shiraz and 33% cabernet sauvignon.  Although creeping into the mid $30s, it's my value pick of the Rockford lineup.  Its aromatics speak of baked plums, licorice and warm gravel.  The palate is full bodied, the length towards long, the tannins are ripe and even a smidgen fleshy, and an iron earth character resonates.  This is a serious shiraz cabernet that should keep and improve for a decade or more.

Hello Sean,

Can you explain in a little more detail what you mean by "the tannins are ripe and even a smudge fleshy"?
Should I simply interpret this comment as the tannins being a little more ........prominent?

Thanks

Hi Colin - yes, I'd describe the tannins as "medium" - not quite prominent, but not negligible either. I mean ripe and fleshy in the context of tannins as a compliment, in that I did not spot any hard or green pip derived tannins from over-extraction or unripe grapes, and to the contrary, it seemed the tannins had an agreeable texture to them. Hopefully this makes sense!

Cheers
Sean
