Punt Road Napoleone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Nb. The picture is of the '14 vintage.  This is the '15.

The 2015 release of the Punt Road Napoleone Vineyard pinot noir is an interesting wine from Tim Shand and the team, a winery that continues to impress with its care and focus.  The grapes for the '15 pinot were hand picked on the 2 March and the pinot clones in the blend are Dijon, MV6 and 115.  In the winery, the grapes were cold soaked for 5 days, 20% whole bunch used and the wine matured for 10 months in 20% new oak.  In the glass, the wine is meaty and sinewy, with further notes of cherry, rosemary and well integrated stems, suggesting the whole bunch inclusion was well judged.  Pomegranate too.  The palate is balanced with fine grained tannins and savoury bacon and red plum characters and pleasant length on the finish.  A lovely release.
