A couple of delicious single vineyard pinots: Ten Minutes by Tractor Coolart Road and McCutcheon pinot noir 2013 releases

It would be rather convenient for my wine studies if wines from regions, even regions that are not enormous such as the Mornington Peninsula, more or less conformed to type, but they simply do not.  Location and site matter a lot and these excellent single vineyard pinot noir releases from Ten Minutes by Tractor are very good examples of the differences they can make.

Ten Minutes by Tractor Coolart Road Pinot Noir 2013, $75, 13.8%
This wine is from 10X Tractor's Coolart Road vineyard in the north of the Mornington Peninsula near Hastings.  The grapes were picked on 7 March 2013 and the clone is 100% MV6.  In the winery, it saw natural yeasts, 20% new oak and 15 months in barrel.  In the glass, look, I am not going to be shy here because I loved this wine.  It has deep and lingering aromas of cherries, cooking spices and game and its palate finishes with long and delicate length.  Possessing both grace and power, its style is more feminine than the McCutcheon pinot noir.  Rating: Outstanding

Ten Minutes by Tractor McCutcheon Pinot Noir 2013, $75, 13.8%
This wine is from 10X Tractor's McCutcheon vineyard in Main Ridge.  The grapes were picked on 20 March 2013, a couple of weeks later than the Coolart Road vineyard, and the clones this time are 75% MV6 and 25% G5V15 (I'll post on the clones another day).  Like the Coolart Road, the wine saw natural yeasts, 20% new oak and 15 months in barrel in the winery.  In the glass, the McCutcheon has typical pinot noir bones.  There are game and cherry aromatics with some Christmas cake overtones and the palate is medium bodied with towards long length on the finish.  The style is more restrained and masculine in style than the Coolart Road, reflecting its slightly cooler site.  Rating: Very Good
