Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2012

Moss Wood's Ribbon Vale cabernet sauvignon is the smart choice in Moss Wood's range.  Substantially better than the inconsistent and sometimes underwhelming Amy's, it is more like its grander sibling in style at less than half the price.  I wonder whether I may in fact prefer it.  The 2012 vintage tasted here is a blend of 63% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot and 4% cabernet franc.  It has aromatics of plums and blackcurrants, and no greenery.  The palate is fleshy and textured with good balance, length and depth.  This is an excellent cabernet sauvignon blend.
