Warramate Cabernets 2012

Yarra Valley cabernet is well out of fashion at the moment, which perhaps makes my current desire and search for it somewhat quixotic.  It's a hard sell, I understand, in a region where pinot noir and chardonnay isn't.

Warramate is situated next door to the renowned Yarra Yering.  Interestingly, I understand it is now under the same ownership with the same winemaker, which may present a buying opportunity if the wines prove to be of a similar standard given the high prices of Yarra Yering.  Unfortunately, though, few of the links on the Warramate website work, which means I do not know whether this particular wine is under the new regime, or old.

In the glass, the 2012 Warramate cabernets (I believe cabernet franc is in the mix too, but see website travails) it has quite muted aromatics of clove and blackcurrant.  The palate is decidedly medium bodied, with nice length, balance and a certain elegance to it.  This is a certainly sound, and quite good, rendition of Yarra Valley cab that is suitable for drinking over the next few years.
