Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion Nuits-St-Georges Premier Cru Clos Saint Marc 2009

Burgundy as usual provides an intellectual excursion before the bottle is even opened.  This wine is from a premier cru vineyard, the Clos Saint Marc (also referred to as Aux Corvées), in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation in the Côtes de Nuits in the commune of Premeaux.  I can heartily recommend "The Wines of Burgundy" by Sylvain Pitiot and Jean-Charles Servant if you seek clear facts on each of Burgundy's subregions.  2009 has produced some very flavoursome wines in Burgundy and impressed on my trip in June this year.  This particular wine from well regarded Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion has aromatics of bacon, strawberry and redcurrant.  There's between medium and long length on the palate, coupled with savoury characters of sour cherry and cedar.  Just a tiny bit hard perhaps at this stage, I expect this wine will benefit from another 3 to 5 years in bottle.
