Kirrihill Vineyard Selection Series Clare Valley Riesling 2014

Magnifier required.

The fruit for this riesling from the 2014 vintage is sourced by Kirrihill from the Watervale sub region of the Clare Valley.  Watervale is not an official subregion of the Clare Valley region under Australia's geographic indication rules, but it is probably more well known than many subregions (and regions for that matter) that are on the list.  It sits roughly 15 kilometres due south of Clare, and you can ride to it from that town along a rather scenic old rail trail.

In the glass, this is quite an aromatic riesling with notes of spiced pear and lemon, and a hint of candied lime.  This proves a false clue to residual sugar on the palate, which is dry.  A dependable Clare Valley riesling, it has an impression of high acid, notes of mineral and soda, but lacks some depth across the mid palate.  Overall, pleasant drinking.
