d'Arenberg The Bonsai Vine Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2010

The "Bonsai Vine" from d'Arenberg is a blend of grenache (48%), shiraz (42%) and mourvèdre (the balance) with fruit from McLaren Vale.   As you would expect from d'Arenberg, the wine is well made with Chester Osborn at the helm.  Its aromatics are exuberant, with piercing strawberry, raspberry and cherry aromas to the fore, whilst earth, grass, dust and sea tang fill in the edges.  The palate is a penetrating blend of these classic grape varieties, with notes of earth and sweet cherry nestled against a racy frame.  Decanting is suggested.
