Diamond Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2001

So, this wine is pretty much a steal.  It has 13 years of age, is a blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% cabernet franc and from Diamond Valley in the Yarra Valley.  I've not heard of this label either, and the latest newsletter on their website heralds the completion of the 2007 vintage. From vines planted in 1976, this wine is particularly good.  It has aromatics of eucalyptus. blackcurrant and a leafy, Australian cool climate expression of cabernet sauvignon.  The palate is medium bodied, with a firm core of acidity that balances well its still unresolved tannins and expressions of blackcurrant and clove.  This wine is in its drinking prime, or perhaps 1 or 2 years on the other side if you don't care for mature flavours in wine, and provides classic claret drinking at a remarkable price.
