Manners Hilltops Shiraz 2013

So, I was a little surprised to see a new label of Hilltops shiraz marked at $45 retail.  Until I tasted it that is and found myself thinking that it had been priced rather fairly given the obvious quality at hand.  The wine from the 2013 vintage in Hilltops has some complexity, with aromatics of spice, red and dark plums, bouquet garni, earth and spearmint.  The palate has an excellent depth of flavour with plums and that spearmint character providing interest, and the length on the finish is very long - always a sign of quality.  The result then is a wine that is very good indeed, and to put things in regional context, reminds more of Clonakilla's more famous first wine than that estate's Hilltops shiraz.

Rating: Very Good, Abv: 14.5%, Price: $45, Source: sample, Vendors:, Website:, Tasted: 2014
