A couple more Ross Hill Wines: Pinnacle Series Shiraz 2012 and Benny & Taylor Shiraz 2012

Here are a couple of shiraz wines from Orange that popped through the door.

The Benny & Taylor Shiraz 2012 is a deep purple in colour, with aromatics of tomato, red plum and mint.  The palate has reminders of clove, tomato, red plums, mint and tinned plums.  I thought it initially lacked depth and I am not particularly partial to tomato derived aromatics and flavours, but it did what some wines rather remarkably do, which is for it to grow in the glass and shed those characters and produce a rather typical red fruited shiraz.  Overall, a good balanced wine.

Rating: Good, Abv: 14%, Price: $25, Source: sample, Vendors: www.wine-searcher.com, Website: http://www.rosshillwines.com.au, Tasted: 2014

The Pinnacle Series Shiraz 2012 is a more complex and complete shiraz.  Deep in colour, it has aromatics of stems, dark plum, crushed bouquet garni and cloves.  The palate is full bodied, has towards long length on the finish, and flavours reminding of dark cherry, dark plum and cloves.  This is a very good shiraz made in a familiar style.

Rating: Good to Very Good, Abv: 14.5%, Price: $40, Source: sample, Vendors: www.wine-searcher.com, Website: http://www.rosshillwines.com.au, Tasted: 2014
