Kirrihill Grenache Sangiovese Tempranillo 2012

I've liked most of Kirrihill's releases to be honest.  This particular blend of grapes I don't think has precedent in any of the regions of France, Italy or Spain - it's probably closest in constitution to a red Rioja with sangiovese thrown in for interest.  Happily, it works anyway.  The wine's a medium intensity ruby in colour.  Its aromatics remind of intensely fragrant candied plums, plum skins and some dried fruit characters suggestive of dried currants.  The palate is dry, with fine grained tannins with just enough edge to be interesting, and a balanced and pleasant expression of leather, plum and cherry.  In terms of taste profile, crossing borders again, it reminds of a smoother rendition of a southern Rhône style wine.  Overall, I think is a well balanced and interesting wine.  Good
