Bodegas Callejo Flores de Callejo Ribera del Duero 2010

100% tempranillo, Bodega Callejo's Flores de Callejo is an entry level Ribera del Duero offering.  It presents as a sort of warmer climate version of a Rioja red.  The wine is a bright purple with medium to deep intensity of expression in the glass and opens to aromatics of cedar, blackberry and anise.  Some quite sweet pungent dark cherry aromatics emerge with time in the glass, with bread, earth and spice also appearing in the backdrop.  The palate has tannins that oscillate between fine grained and powdery, and some stretched cherry and plum flavours round things out with a medium length finish.  The alcohol feels a little high in this wine, but the fruit and general result is certainly pleasant.  Acceptable to Good
