Domaine du Tariquet Ugni Blanc Colombard 2010

Two most unexciting grapes, ugni blanc (aka trebbiano) and colombard, better known for their contribution in these parts to Armagnac brandy than wine, come together here to produce a refreshing and balanced wine bottled by Domaine du Tariquet under the VDP Cotes de Gascogne appellation.  Sort of scary really for local producers.  Or perhaps an opportunity.  The wine has bright aromatics of straw, lemon and a touch of peach.  On the palate, the wine is dry with a saline character and a lemon/lime pinch.  Overall, there is balance and even a bit of length.  This smart little offering fits the bill as a tasty lunch time wine.  Acceptable to Good
