Berberana Carta de Oro Reserva Rioja 2007

I don't know what's going on with this label that makes it so cheap, and I checked and re-checked the wine pondering this thought, but this would have to be one of the better $11 wines that I have tasted.  It's a medium intensity ruby in colour in the glass and opens to developing aromatics of plum, cedar, spice, pepper, earth and tobacco.  The palate is dry with soft tannins, medium acid, some moreish length and pleasant flavours of plum, plum skin, anise and dried herbs.  This is a good quality wine due to its balance and unexpectedly long length on the palate, and would comfortably best many wines retailing for much more.  If bottle variation is not an issue, it's an almost embarrassingly obvious buy.  Good
