Chateau Lanessan 2009

As I drank this wine, I had assumed it retailed for around $25, rather than its $45 price tag. I don’t think it represents good value at $45. Although from the remarkable 2009 vintage in Bordeaux, its aromatics are muted, with earth, cloves, blackcurrants, cigar box and old wood present, but in a dull sort of way. On the palate, medium-high acid, dark fruit, hardish tannins and clove dominant flavours complete the picture.

This wine needs some time, I think, to show its potential as it presents in a quite hard and old wooded fashion, with muted fruit. It does however offer up some classic left-bank Bordeaux drinking, so all is not lost – it is most clearly a Bordeaux. On today’s tasting, it only just makes the grade.  Acceptable to Good
