Ornellaia Le Volte Toscana IGT 2003

I feel somewhat conflicted here pointing out the virtues of this wine, since if I find it again, I would like to pay $10 for it again.  From the very hot year of 2003, it's a blend of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot.  At nine years of age for a humble $10 Toscana IGT, it presents as brooding, ripe and savoury, with notes on the palate of tar, twigs, a little bitter but not too much so, coupled with a chewy texture and good length.  This is nearly a "wow" wine.  Highly recommended and the sort of wine that you would pay a whole lot more for.  Is it right that hot year wines fall apart?  I'm not so sure.  Very Good
