Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 1998

Tasted blind, this wine presented beautifully, with an aroma of oak and plums, and a palate with good fruit and great length (of more than 10 seconds). A very good wine and worth seeking out. 89 to 90 points.

Ah yes, THE classic 389 in my opinion. The last time I pulled a bottle from my cellar it was 2006 and I recall it being insatiably tannic, structured and strong, so I put the rest away for a minimum of a further 10 years from then. Very true bout the length too Sean. If ever there was a true 'Baby Grange'...

I notice it's still commanding a strong price at auctions too ($70+ recently)

Cheers,

Really appreciate your comments Chris. It's comforting knowing that my blind review notes bear some relationship to reality!

Cheers

Sean
